another creative idea!
Black reminds us of sin – What are some sins that you have committed? (write them on small slips of paper and put them inside the zipper) Sin is anything we say, think, or do that makes God unhappy. Romans 3:23 says “ for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” This is bad news! Everyone (all) is guilty of sin and fall short of God’s perfect standards. We must pay the penalty for our sins.
Note: Avoid saying that “black is sin”. African children who can misunderstand and think you are saying ‘black people’ are sin. Instead say black reminds us of sin, not how ‘black is evil.’
Red reminds us of the blood of Jesus – Jesus died to pay for the penalty of our sins. John 3:16 says “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son that who so ever believes in Him should not parish but have eternal life.” He took our punishment. He died to take our place, He rose again to prove His power over death. Ephesians 2:8-9 says “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith – and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God – not by works, so that no one can boast.” Jesus died for our sins so we could live forever in heaven with Him.
Yellow reminds us of heaven – Jesus has gone to prepare a wonderful place for those who choose to accept Him. John 14:1-3 says “Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.” Jesus says “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father but through me.” We must put our faith in Jesus, knowing He died on the cross and rose again to prepare a place (heaven) for me. If you believe that, Heaven is a place you can call home.
Green reminds us of growth – We as Christians need to grow in a new life. Plants need three things to grow: sunshine, rain, and good soil. Christians are the same way. If we want to become more like Jesus every day we need to do three things. Pray; talk to Jesus and have a personal relationship with Him. Read God’s Word; the Bible will help us understand who God is, and what He did for us. It will give us great answers to every day problems. Have a healthy relationship with other Christians; attend a good church that will teach you how to become more like Jesus. 2 Peter 3:18 says “But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be glory both now and forever! Amen.
White reminds us of the cleansing of salvation – Once we accept Christ, we become a new creation. 2 Corinthians 5:17 says “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!” God saves us instantly through our faith in Christ. The Bible tells us in Isaiah chapter 1 that our sins are like scarlet, but they shall be as white as snow. This is the promise of God, that He will forgive us all our sins.
Close – At this point, provide an opportunity to receive Christ. Ask if they know they are a sinner. Ask if they believe Jesus came to save them. If they answer “yes”, then ask if there is any reason why they shouldn’t receive God’s salvation through Jesus right now.
